November 1996, I began an embouchure change searching for a better and easier way to
play. Since then, I have played many different ways and tried out many techniques. From my
experiences, I have tried to write down some of my thoughts regarding trumpet playing. (I
know there are many other viewpoints out there.)
My thoughts are based on the philosophy of making trumpet playing as simple and
efficient as possible.
Currently I play lead trumpet for the Borderline Ballroom Big Band.
Some of my favorite players are : Maynard Ferguson, Bill Chase, Doc Severinsen, Jerry
Hey, Gary Grant, Chuck Findley, Jim Manley, Walt Johnson, Bill Churchville.
My trumpet is a Selmer Claude Gordon, .470 bore. Very free blowing, dark, lightweight
instrument.
I use a Marcinkiewicz Chuck Findley mouthpiece for lead playing. For classical and
practising my Arban, I use a Bach 3CW. When going for that dark and mellow sound, I use a
Giardinelli 1VM.

No Nonsense Trumpet From A-Z by Clint McLaughlin. A very good book about trumpet
playing.
